Microsoft has integrated a lot of technology into Bing Maps. Streetsideā„¢ sucks in geotagged Creative Commons Flickr images and gives it that immersive Photosynth treatment. Talking about immersive, Microsoft have been mapping indoors using backpack cameras, which means the virtual tourist is no longer tied to, well, the street. Microsoft’s WorldWide Telescope even gives the sky some love where the constellations and other celestial bodies are now mapped.

The most intriguing feature was the Video Overlay Technology, which enables real-time video to be overlaid seamlessly on the static images. Does that mean webcams and even video recording smart phones come into play? I can imagine big brother-like stalking or citizen coverage of events.
